We all know her as Haley Dunphy, the hysterical teen daughter from the hit sitcom Modern Family, but 21-year-old Sarah Hyland has actually been acting since age five! Find out more in her Kidzworld bio!
New York, New York
Sarah was born in New York City. Her dad, Edward James Hyland, has been involved in theater as an actor, and used to take Sarah on trips touring different theatres with him. Her mom is a stage acting coach and home-schooled Sarah until Grade 2, making it easy to balance acting and schoolwork. Sarah was a standout talent even at a young age, and started doing voice work and commercials when she was only five years old; she was well-known for her “little girl” voice!
Actor’s Academy & Annie
By Grade 6 Sarah had been accepted into the Professional Performing Arts School, graduating from there in 2008. In that time her career really took off: she appeared in movies like the Object of My Affection and the Audrey Hepburn Story, plus as Annie in ABC’s TV version of the classic musical. She also appeared on TV shows like Another World and Law & Order.
Screen & Stage
Sarah didn’t just take the acting world by storm on screen, she also booked stage performances like Annie (as the lead role), Grey Gardens, Bad Girls and A Dark Part of the Forest. Grey Gardens was nominated for tons of stage awards, and Sarah was pegged as a young talent to watch.
California Dreams
When Sarah turned 18 she moved to L.A. and, within weeks, landed a juicy role in the family comedy-drama Modern Family! Since landing the role Sarah and the rest of the cast have received several awards, including the Emmy for “Outstanding Comedy."
Disney Princess
So what’s up next for Sarah? She’s set to star in Disney’s new TV movie Geek Charming alongside her boyfriend Matt Prokop (you may know him from High School Musical 3)! We can’t wait until it’s out!
