Scary Halloween Movies

If you don't plan to trick or treat on Halloween night, then settle in for a comfy night on the couch and watch these spooky movies that'll send chills up your spine.

Scary Movies - Beetlejuice

Actor Michael Keaton stars as a crazy poltergeist in the scary comedy, Beetlejuice. Before he was Batman, actor Michael Keaton was Betelgeuse ("the name in laughter from the hereafter") in the hilariously scary movie Beetlejuice. After a couple is killed in a car crash, they find themselves trapped as ghosts in their home. They're determined to rid their house of the new residents, but when they realize they're not scary enough, they conjure Betelgeuse, a crazy poltergeist who is guaranteed to scare anyone away! Beetlejuice is a classic flick that the whole family will love. And check out how cute Winona Ryder was before she starting stealing things.

Scary Movies - The Nightmare Before Christmas

Santa Claus gets kidnapped in The Nightmare Before Christmas! This animated musical/fantasy/horror/comedy is about Jack Skellington, the pumpkin king of Halloween Town. Jack's bored with the same old tricks and treats of Halloween. One day, he stumbles upon the magical kingdom of Christmas Town and decides to change Christmas into another Halloween. With the help of ghouls and goblins, he kidnaps Santa Claus and delivers gifts to unsuspecting children.

Scary Movies - The Corpse Bride

Santa Claus gets kidnapped in The Nightmare Before Christmas! All hell breaks loose (literally) when a nervous groom accidentally marries a young, dead woman. While his rightful fiancée waits for him, the groom tries to make his way back to her from the Land of the Dead. If you're a huge fan of The Nightmare Before Christmas (and who isn't?) you have to check out this freaky flick from the same producer, Tim Burton. This is the perfect movie for those of you who want to spice up your Halloween with a little undead romance.

Scary Movies - Spooky House

A mysterious magician has rigged his spooky house with magic tricks and hidden chambers. A spooky house sets the stage for this Halloween movie. Ben Kingsley stars as the Great Zamboni, a magician with a mysterious secret. He lives with his pet jaguar in the Spooky House, an old mansion that's rigged with magic tricks and hidden chambers. On Halloween night, a young orphan and his friends enter the house, resulting in a night of hocus pocus magic, tricks and treats.

Scary Movies - Casper Meets Wendy

A young Hilary Duff plays a good witch who becomes friends with the friendly ghost, Casper. It's a feud between the witches and the ghosts in this family movie about Casper, the friendly ghost. An evil warlock vows to destroy Wendy, the good witch played by Hilary Duff. She escapes to a resort with her witch aunts, where she meets a pudgey child-like ghost names Casper, and his trouble-making uncles - Stretch, Stinkie and Fatso. This is the perfect movie choice to get you in the Halloween spirit without scaring you silly or giving you nightmares!

Are You Going Trick-or-Treating?

  • Absolutely! I go every year.
  • Probably - I've already picked out the coolest, scariest costume.
  • No, I'm staying home and renting Kidzworld's scary movie picks.
  • No way - tricks and treats are for little kids.

It included a lot of mature themes and it really connects with today's older youth. You mean violence wise? Not just that, but the show tells the stories of the characters finding themselves. Take Asami for example. A lot of people have a late relative and another relative involved in some kind of trouble. She had her relationships AND family business to take care of, which relates to some of today's youth who feel like they have the whole world on their shoulders. They're starting to have to take responsibility for things they can hardly manage, and seeing the triumph of a character like Asami is truly inspiring. Her mother's dead, her father's in prison, her boyfriend was stolen from her, and her business nearly failed. But she did not give up, which sends a positive message to today's generation of teens. Mako was not stolen from Asami he just chose Korra and everyone knows that thats what people wanted. As messed up as that sounds its the truth.
