Nick Lachey and Ashley Parker Angel CD Reviews

Dec 27, 2006

Reality bites for Nick Lachey and Ashley Parker Angel. Both were chewed up and spat out by their respective reality TV gigs and now both are looking to make a come-back with new albums (strangely, both with tracks titled Shades of Blue). Find out who will soon be back on top and who is on a downward spiral.

Nick Lachey - What's Left of Me

Former Newlywed Nick Lachey is taking his divorce badly. Most people could have guessed that by the way he keeps crying in interviews and generally embarrassing himself. But Nick still feels the need to drive the point home in not-so-subtle songs like "On Your Own", "I Can't Hate You Any More", "Run to Me" and "Please Come Back to Me Jessica" (okay, we made the last one up). While Nick's pain is very understandable, we can't condone him taking it out on us. Nick's whine-fest is nondescript at best. His pop ballads are so same-y that you often can't tell where one song ends and another begins - but none of that matters because you won't remember any of them anyway. Except, perhaps, when you're looking for the soundtrack to your next breakup.

Ashley Parker Angel - Soundtrack to Your Life

Ashley Parker Angel has set out to answer the age-old question - can anyone recover from being a reality TV star? For Ashley, answering this question involved getting a gig on yet-another reality TV show. Oh the irony! The MTV show follows Ashley while he applies for a string of low-paying jobs, lives with his pregnant girlfriend at her mom's apartment and eventually records Soundtrack to Your Life. The album turns out to be a heck of a lot better than anything O-(My-Bleeding-Ears)-Town ever produced. Songs like "Soundtrack to Your Life", "Shades of Blue", "Along the Way", and "Apology" manage to be both catchy and heartfelt. The album ranges across a variety of musical styles while remaining true to its rock roots. This may not be the soundtrack to your life but it will probably be the soundtrack to your summer.
