Wayans Brothers Interview - Shawn & Marlon

Marlon and Shawn Wayans recently took some time to talk to Kidzworld about their new cartoon, Thugaboo: Sneaker Madness, their various movies and life as a comedian. Here's a recap of what they had to say!

Brittney: How old were you when you started to act?
Marlon: We were about eight years old and our mom took us to an audition but we totally hated the material.
Shawn: Yeah, we thought it was degrading.
Marlon: But the first time I acted I was in a production of Oliver Twist at school.

friendsroc18: What is your favorite song?
Shawn: My favorite song is Smile - one version by Nat King Cole and the other by Michael Jackson.
Marlon: My favorite song is Automatic by Prince.

Ashley Simmons: How many movies have you starred in?
Shawn: I've been in six.
Marlon: I've been in 14 movies.

Jake: What is your next movie going to be?
Marlon: I'm working on a movie right now, but it's not really appropriate for this audience.

Jimmy: Do you like to swim?
Marlon: Yeah, I have a pool. I don't like to swim anywhere but my own pool because people pee in pools.
Shawn: Yeah, it's gross. They're always full of snot and stuff.

Aubrey: I love your show The Wayans Bros. and I was wondering if that's how you really are? Like is Shawn really down to earth and serious and Marlon is all crazy and loud?
Both: Yeah, the show is kind of based on our actual personalities.
Marlon: But I'm not really that crazy.
Shawn: Yeah, and I'm not really that boring.

Warrshaw89: Will you be making a White Chicks 2?
Both: There might be. We're thinking about it.

Kaylea: Did you ever play basketball?
Both: Yeah, we play, but we really suck.
Shawn: We're flat-footed, so we're not very good.

Juvonna: How did you come up with the idea for Thugaboo: Sneaker Madness? What channel will the show be on?
Both: It's kind of a combination of ideas from our favorite shows like Fat Albert and Charlie Brown, but with a hip-hop flavor.
Marlon: It's going to be on Nickelodeon. You can check out the website at www.thugaboo.com.
Shawn: Yeah, definitely check that out.
Marlon: We've also got a comic book called Super Bad James Dynomite that you can get at your local comic book store!

David: Who is older - Shawn or Marlon?
Both: Shawn is older by a year and a half.

Chelsea: What does it take to be a comedian?
Marlon: It takes courage to be a comedian.
Shawn: You have to learn to observe those that came before you and just watch people in general.

hailey: How did you come up with the idea for Little Man? What was it like shooting that movie?
Marlon: Keenan came up with the idea. We were walking through the mall and Keenan saw this toy called Test Tube Baby and he said, "Wouldn't it be funny if Shawn was a test tube baby?" And that's where the idea came from.
Shawn: It was really weird working on that movie cuz I just did all my parts in front of a green screen and then I was added in later. So I didn't have any other actors to interact with.

alexa: What is your favorite TV show?
Both: We like the Honeymooners, I Love Lucy, All in the Family.

Ashley: How many brothers do you have?
Shawn: There are five girls and five boys in our family.
Marlon: I've lost count.

Shay: Do you like working with each other a lot? Do you ever fight?
Both: Yeah, we really like working with one another. We fight sometimes but everyone fights sometimes and we support each other and it's cool that we get to work so closely.

Caitlyn: Who or what inspires you as an actor?
Marlon: Our dad really inspires me. Just him getting up every morning and working really hard to support our family was inspiring.

“Instruction in world history in the so-called high schools is even today in a very sorry condition. Few teachers understand that the study of history can never be to learn historical dates and events by heart and recite them by rote; that what matters is not whether the child knows exactly when this battle or that was fought, when a general was born, or even when a monarch (usually a very insignificant one) came into the crown of his forefathers. No, by the living God, this is very unimportant. To 'learn' history means to seek and find the forces which are the causes leading to those effects which we subsequently perceive as historical events.”
