Drake Bell Interview

Dec 27, 2006

By: Sindy

Drake Bell is best known for his role on Drake and Josh but these days he's getting in touch with his musical side. We sat down to chat with Drake about his upcoming album, It's Only Time.

Sindy: Why don't you start off by telling me a little about your debut album, It's Only Time?

Drake Bell: It's great! It's out on December 5, 2006 and it's heavily influenced by The Beatles and The Beach Boys and that era of music. It was so much fun recording it - we did the whole record ourselves and had a lot of creative freedom.

Sindy: Have you always had musical aspirations?

Drake Bell: Yeah. Definitely. I started playing guitar when I was 12 and have really been interested in music ever since.

Sindy: Who are your musical role-models?

Drake Bell: John Lennon and Paul McCartney are the two big ones.

Sindy: What are you listening to these days?

Drake Bell: Lots of stuff - Grandaddy, Rufus Wainright, the Scissor Sisters.

Sindy: What are your plans now that the Drake and Josh show has finished up?

Drake Bell: Music! That's really what I want to focus on now. I just love singing, songwriting and touring.

Sindy: How did you get your start in acting?

Drake Bell: My dad got me into it when I was five. He just started taking me to auditions. He was really encouraging.

Sindy: Do you see yourself focusing more on acting or singing in the future?

Drake Bell: Music, I hope. I love acting but music is so much more rewarding because it's more personal.

Sindy: Do you have any concerns about being limited by the "Disney Kid" label? You know, that maybe people won't take you seriously?

Drake Bell: Not really. I think my music speaks for itself - it backs me up. I wrote all the music on the show and it just speaks for itself. I don't feel like I have to prove myself.
