That '70s Show Season Finale
When Eric gives Donna a promise ring it doesn't bring them closer together - it makes them grow apart. Donna seems happy about it at first but starts to think about the seriousness of it. She loves Eric now but isn't sure if they'll be together forever.
Eric finds out she's wearing it around her neck instead of her finger and he begins to wonder, but denies that there's a problem. His friends razz him about Donna not wearing it on her finger.
Meanwhile, Fez lets it slip to Jackie that Kelso might have a ring for Jackie too. Jackie remembers she once told Kelso if he was gonna buy her something nice he should put it in food - she thinks it classy. So when Kelso gets her an ice cream sundae she gobbles it up in a couple of bites and gives Kelso crap when she realizes it's just a "stupid sundae."
Eventually, Jackie gets her ring and he gets all mushy - cheesy Kelso style. He even gets down on one knee to give it to her. They're back together - yay!
Donna realizes she can't accept the ring and decides to give it back to Eric. Eric's really offended when she tells him she can't accept it and questions their relationship. He says "I guess we're breaking up then." Donna runs off crying and Eric lays down on the car and pounds his fist on the hood.
Whoa! Did I miss something? Where's this coming from? Donna and Eric were so stable - it's Jackie and Kelso that are the classic on-again-off-again couple. I wondered if Jackie and Kelso would get back together before the end of the season but the Donna and Eric's break up was a shocker. So there we have it. I hate it when they leave us high and dry with bad news.
