Demi Lovato :: Interview

Sep 19, 2008

Now that the summer’s over, Demi Lovato is set to leave Camp Rock behind and step into the crazy world of pop music! Kidzworld chats with this rising star of music, movies and TV!

By: Sindy

Sindy: Your album is coming out really soon! So what can we expect from your debut album?

Demi: My debut album…wow, that sounds so cool! A lot of songs are fun but definitely messages that I wanted to get across that people can relate to.

Sindy: What kind of music is going to be on the album?

Demi: It’s rock and pop. I think it’s going to be a little more rock than people expect from the girl from Camp Rock.

Sindy: Do you write your own songs? Where does your inspiration come from?

Demi: Whenever I write music, it’s never planned. I’m always either playing guitar or piano first, and then I’ll write lyrics to it. But I love writing lyrics about experiences that I’ve had in my life.

Sindy: Who are your musical idols?

Demi: Hayley Williams from Paramore is the main one, she’s awesome. Kelly Clarkson and Christina Aguilera are huge influences and I hope to meet them one day.

Sindy: You’re currently on tour with the Jonas Brothers. Any funny stories from the tour?

Demi: Oh yeah! There’s a microphone on the side of the stage that we use to tell people if we need water or we need something, and it’s called a talkback mike. Only we, the performers, can hear it in our ear pieces. And there are times when the Jonas Brothers will use the mike to try to mess me up while I’m singing. There’s been a few times that I’ve laughed in the middle of a song!

Sindy: You and Selena Gomez have a series of videos that you’ve started to do on YouTube. Why did you start doing that?

Demi: Well, Selena and I were noticing how hard it can be to write messages and comments to every single fan that you have. On YouTube, even though you’re not speaking to them personally, you can at least say “Hey, this is what I’m doing,” and you’re getting to reach out to all of them. So, we made a video and all of a sudden it became this huge thing that other people were doing, too.

Sindy: Other than video blogging, what do you and Selena like to do?

Demi: We always find the most random fun. When we were eight or nine, we’d always use accents wherever we went. Once we went into Target on the Fourth of July, and we were speaking in British accents asking everyone why they were wearing red, white and blue.

Sindy: What do you think about the Team Demi vs. Team Miley shirts? Your fans are wearing them, and even Kevin Jonas wore one.

Demi: I think that Selena is one of my best friends, and I can’t wait for my album to come out, September 23rd, 2008!

Sindy:Um, OK..... Besides your new album coming out, what else is coming up for you?

Demi: I’m starting a television show called Welcome to Mollywood. It’s a sitcom all about a girl from Wisconsin who gets to be on her favorite TV show. It’s kind of like 30 Rock but it’s for the Disney Channel, which is cool.

I also just shot a movie with Selena in Puerto Rico called Princess Protection Program. I play a princess, and my dad puts me into a protection program because my throne is about to be taken over by a bad guy. And Selena’s dad is the Secret Agent who is protecting me, so I go to live with him and his daughter. We butt heads the whole time because she’s a tomboy and I’m a princess, and it’s not a good mix. It’s a really good movie, and I can’t wait for it to come out next year.

Sindy: Do you and Selena have any plans to do a song together, maybe for an upcoming album?

Demi: Yeah! We had an idea to do a duet together…maybe you will see one in the movie. You’ll have to wait and see!
