Author: Maggie Stiefvater

Grace

Grace has always been fascinated by the wolves that live in the woods behind her house. When she was a little girl, the pack dragged her from her swing set into the woods, planning to eat her for lunch. But one wolf stepped in to help—a wolf with piercing yellow eyes.
.

Sam

Ever since the day Sam saved Grace, he’s watched her, just like she has watched him. He's just waiting for the day that she'll recognize him on the street, because whether he's in [kwlink 1182]human form or wolf form, his eyes never change.

The Hunting Party

After a boy at Grace's school is killed by the wolves, a hunting party scours the woods, planning to eliminate the dangerous creatures. Grace has to stop them. She can't bear the thought of her wolf getting hurt...or worse. But after guns are fired, she finds not a wolf, but a wounded boy on her back porch. Grace knows it's him, her wolf, and she's not scared or skeptical. Werewolf or not, Grace has always known that he’s the one.

Winter

Sam and Grace spend the last few months of warmth together. But Sam knows his time is numbered. When the winter cold sets in, his body will change back to wolf form. And once it does, he'll never be human again.

The Bottom Line

In Shiver, Maggie Stiefvater tells the story of an unconventional love affair between a werewolf and a human. Grace and Sam's love is pure, strong and everlasting. But even though they grew up watching each other from across the woods, their love seems too instant. Grace should have been a little shocked or concerned when she discovered Sam's true identity.
