American Idol Recap :: Friday April 9

Ryan Seacrest promises “shocking results,” Rihanna performs in a skintight catsuit and one of the Idol hopefuls gets the coveted Judges Save. Find out who in this week’s American Idol Season 9 recap!

Highlights

  • Kara’s protégé Jason DeRulo performed a medley of his hits “Whatcha Say” and “In My Head.” The judges were impressed with his tight dancing and smooth voice.
  • Season 7 runner-up David Archuleta returned to the Idol stage to perform John Lennon’s “Imagine” in honor of this week’s Beatles theme.
  • Did anyone else notice that so far all the eliminated contestants have been women? Well, not tonight! Ryan Seacrest brought Siobhan Magnus, Katie Stevens and Crystal Bowersox onto the center of the stage, but after a moment of anxiety, he told each girl they were safe. That means it’s a guy going home tonight!
  • The guys were broken into two groups—Tim Urban, Lee Dewyze and Casey James in one, and Aaron Kelly, Michael Lynche and Andrew Garcia in the other.
  • Ryan Seacrest asked Ellen which group she thought had the lowest votes and she guessed correctly—that meant Aaron, Michael and Andrew were in the bottom three, but Ryan quickly sent Aaron back, so it was down to Big Mike and Andrew.
  • Rihanna performed her new single “Rock Star 101” clad in a skintight black vinyl catsuit with massive shoulder pads. Looking good, RiRi! Rihanna also finally confirmed that she’s dating L.A. Dodger Matt Kemp.

Who's Out?

Despite getting the least amount of votes this week, Big Mike sang his heart out in a repeat performance of “Womens Work” and the judges rewarded him with a save! That means no one went home!

Stay tuned for next week when two unlucky contestants will get voted off and last year’s runner-up, the super talented Adam Lambert acts as mentor.
