Amanda Bynes' movie, What a Girl Wants, is all about stuffy British people (like Colin Firth), a hot London rocker boy (played by actor Oliver James) and cheesy, fairy tale fun!

What happens when an energetic, spazzy New York teen goes in search of her long lost British dad? One great, big, funny fairy tale with lots of warm, fuzzy moments and wacky accidents - that's what. Get ready for the cable TV premiere of What a Girl Wants on April 21, 2006 on Nickelodeon. Find out why it's worth a watch!

What a Girl Wants - And So the Story Goes...

What a Girl Wants stars Amanda Bynes as Daphne Reynolds. Daphne's spent her whole life with her musician mom, Libby, but no dad. All she knows is her dad, Henry Dashwood, is a British Lord who doesn't know she exists. Daphne has wanted to meet her dad her whole life, so at the age of 17, she takes off to London, England and tracks him down. He's a stuffy, uptight dude (played by Colin Firth) who has been made into an even stuffier and more uptight dude, thanks to his snotty fiancee and her bratty daughter. Will Daphne get the dad she's always wanted or be rejected cuz she's so wild and crazy?

What a Girl Wants - DVD Features

Find out what it was like for Amanada Bynes to film What a Girl Wants with commentary from the comedic actress. There is also a great interactive game on this DVD that is called What's a Girl to Wear? Test your fashion smarts by playing through this game. If you need any inspiration, just watch the movie again!

What a Girl Wants - Bottom Line

The movie is kinda typical and has an overly perfect ending, but it also has some fun moments, thanks to Bynes and Firth, and a great soundtrack. The goofiness of Daphne, the inner sweetness of Henry, as well as the cuteness of Ian (played by Oliver James III), make up for the film's cheesiness. Besides, who doesn't need a little cheese every now and then?

What a Girl Wants Rating:4

1 This movie gets 1,000,000 stars out of 10!! It's the cutest movie in the world!!! I could watch it all day long!!!

Is Oliver James Hot or Not?

  • Yes! He's a total hottie.
  • He's kinda cute, I guess.
  • No way. He's not a hottie.
  • I'm more into guys like Jesse McCartney.

It included a lot of mature themes and it really connects with today's older youth. You mean violence wise? Not just that, but the show tells the stories of the characters finding themselves. Take Asami for example. A lot of people have a late relative and another relative involved in some kind of trouble. She had her relationships AND family business to take care of, which relates to some of today's youth who feel like they have the whole world on their shoulders. They're starting to have to take responsibility for things they can hardly manage, and seeing the triumph of a character like Asami is truly inspiring. Her mother's dead, her father's in prison, her boyfriend was stolen from her, and her business nearly failed. But she did not give up, which sends a positive message to today's generation of teens. Mako was not stolen from Asami he just chose Korra and everyone knows that thats what people wanted. As messed up as that sounds its the truth.
