When I Was a Freshman - Nate Robinson

With a Slam Dunk Championship under his belt, little Nate Robinson is doing big things as a member of the New York Knicks. While he may be a big star now, there was a time when Nate was just a wide-eyed freshman in high school runnin' from seniors. We caught up with the Nate, who is just 5'9", as he reflected on his early high school days in Seattle.

Simon: What school did you attend for your freshman year of high school?
Nate Robinson: When I was a freshman in high school, I went to a school in Seattle, Washington called Rainier Beach High. There was a lot of former guys that went there like [NBA players] Doug Christie and Jamal Crawford.

Simon: What were you like back then?
Nate Robinson: Very energetic, the class clown. I was a fun dude, everybody knew who I was. I played varsity as a freshman.

Simon: What was a typical outfit you would wear?
Nate Robinson: Just sweatsuits with a hat. Always had the cap. I remember my first day of school, I wore some jeans with some Air Force 1's with a polo button up shirt.

Simon: Did you play any other sports?
Nate Robinson: I ran track for my school. I played football, but I didn't play for my high school, I played for a little league team.

Simon: What musical artists did you listen to at the time?
Nate Robinson: I listened to Cash Money.

Simon: What TV shows did you watch?
Nate Robinson: Back then? Trying to remember it was so long ago. Martin was out back then. I watched Martin and Fresh Prince.

Simon: Were there any video games you liked playing?
Nate Robinson: I was a Madden man back then, for the original Playstation.
