The Evolution of Pokémon

Apr 11, 2007

Pokémon, Pokémon, Pokémon! The cute little creatures are everywhere - in movies, on TV, on lunch boxes, backpacks, cards and especially in video games. But where did this Pokémon popularity start? What makes everybody go crazy for them? And, most importantly, what's happening with Pokémon now? Here's Gary with the 411 for you.

Pokémon - How it all Began

Pokémon started out in Japan in 1996 with two video games - Pokémon Red and Pokémon Blue. They let players become a Pokémon Trainer off to explore a Pokémon-filled world, have exciting adventures, battle other Pokémon Trainers and even save the world. The games became super-popular and launched a whole series of anime, manga, toys, a card game and, of course, more video games!

Pokémon - What's it All About?

The world of Pokémon is all about Pokémon and Pokémon Trainers - brave kids who use red and white Pokéballs to catch Pokémon. Ash Ketchum and Pikachu are the stars of the anime, but the video games let you become a Pokémon Trainer and catch, trade, and battle with your own Pokémon!

Pokémon - More Than Just a Game

With all the trading, battling and collecting, Pokémon games are more than just video games - they're like joining a special club. And the new Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl are making Pokémon even bigger with more than 100 new Pokémon to catch, plus the ability to battle, trade and chat across the internet!
