Fitness Instructors - Get Your Fitness On
Let's face it - if you hate P.E., then this isn't the job for you. But if you can't wait to change into your gymstrip every day and see what your P.E. teacher has in store for class (hey, maybe you even wanna teach the class!), then maybe you should consider working in the fitness field when you grow up. Fitness instructors are teachers, but they don't teach math or English or social studies. They teach you how to exercise and lead healthy lifestyles. To find out what you want to teach, take every type of exercise class. Try aerobics, aquatics, kickboxing, yoga, pilates, spinning and strength training.
Fitness Instructors - Get Certified
You don't have to have buns of steel or washboard abs to be a fitness instructor. What you do need is to love exercising and motivating others to stay in shape, as well as a fitness certificate from a nationally recognized certifying association like the American Council on Exercise. You also need to get a certificate in CPR, which you can get from your local YMCA or Red Cross. Once you're certified, you can work in gyms and health clubs.
Fitness Instructors - Work Up a Sweat
Sweat mixed with body odor can make for a very stinky workplace! People come to gyms to sweat it out on treadmills, bikes, stairmasters and weight machines. And guess who'll have to wipe down all the gym equipment at the end of the day? The fitness instructor, that's who. It may not be the most thrilling aspect of the job, but it sure beats cleaning outhouses for a living, doesn't it?
Fitness Instructors - How Much $$$ Do Fitness Instructors Make?
Depending on experience and qualifications, full-time fitness instructors can make anywhere from $30,000 to $50,000 US. Those working a part-time gig will make about $20,000 US. Fitness instructors also get job perks like a free gym pass, so you'll always be in great shape!
