Highlights

  • Crystal Bowersox closed Tuesday night with an emotional performance of “People Get Ready.” She sang without her guitar and broke down in sobs at the end when she spotted her father in the audience.
  • Mary J. Blige delivered a phenomenal cover of “Stairway to Heaven” with lots of help from her friends—her backup band included Travis Barker, Steve Vai and if you can believe it, Idol judge Randy Jackson!
  • America’s best comedians brought their A game to Idol—Jim Carrey, Russell Brand, Wanda Sykes, George Lopez and Jonah Hill all delivered the funny. Wanda summed up why the kicked off Idol has to sing one last song: “so we can remind America why they didn’t vote for you, you go let them know they were right.”
  • This year Idol Gives Back is supporting the United Nations Foundation, Save the Children, Malaria No More, Feeding America and the Children’s Health Fund. To find out more, visit the Idol website and give back.
  • Victoria Beckham traveled to Kentucky with her son Brooklyn to help disadvantaged kids and bring attention to the great work done by Save the Children.
  • The total list of celebs involved in this year’s Idol Gives Back, that raised more than $45 million includes President Obama and the First Lady, Mary J. Blige, Jim Carrey, Sir Elton John, Alicia Keys, Carrie Underwood, Queen Latifah, Elliott Yamin, Joss Stone, Jeff Beck, Captain “Sully” Sullenberger, Bill and Melinda Gates, Justin Bieber, Joe Jonas, Demi Lovato, Jonah Hill, Chris Rock, The Black Eyed Peas, Annie Lennox, Victoria Beckham, David Cook, Jan Lynch, David Arquette, Morgan Freeman, Jennifer Garner, Ben Affleck, Josh Groban, Slash, Orianthi and Travis Barker.

Who's Out?

Looking a lot like a boy band, the bottom three were Casey james, Aaron Kelly and Tim Urban for a second week in a row. Unfortunately it seems Tim’s legions of pre-pubescent fans couldn’t keep him in the competition (maybe they finally listened to him—those pearly whites are distracting) and he was sent home.

Stay tuned for Shania Twain week when the country megastar mentors the Top 6!
