Family Matters

Melissa has returned home from Washington and Mrs. Hastings reveals that she has taken on Garrett’s defense pro-bono. Spencer is incensed and decides to get to the bottom of it, suspecting that her sister has something to do with it. When the girls get together, Hanna suggests that maybe there was something more between Garrett and Melissa than they suspected, and when Spencer calls  the hospital where Melissa had her miscarriage she discovers that she was never there and was faking her miscarriage! Mrs. Hastings admits to Spencer that she wasn’t aware until she went to visit Melissa at the Hanover Resort.

Meanwhile Emily discovers that Aria’s mom finished her test for her, and when the school gets wind of it the Vice Principal asks to speak with Ella. Aria vents her worries to Ezra and he swoops in to the rescue, providing an alibi for Mrs. Montgomery.

Lucas at the Loonie Bin

Caleb confronts Hanna about visiting mad Mona, saying he no longer wants her to go. Lucas has developed a dark side and when Hanna sees him set a notice from the Principal’s office on fire, she asks Caleb to speak with him, but Lucas just hints that now that A is gone there are more secrets to be revealed. Mona has become much more communicative, and asks Hanna if they ever found “what’s left” of Alison’s body, as Hanna is leaving she sees a surprise visitor – Lucas! Caleb is waiting outside and wants to know why she’s still going the nuthouse when he asked her not to, but when they both catch Lucas leaving Lucas hints that he thinks Mona has been faking her illness in order to stay out of jail…and the line of fire. By the end of the episode Mona has one more surprise visitor, Caleb. He warns her to keep away from Hanna and Mona pretends to have a psychotic fit.

Genuine Jenna

Aria decides to take Jenna up on her offer to perform together, claiming stage fright was her initial reason for declining, but she and the girls want to the use the opportunity to do some snooping around to see what Jenna’s up to next and whether she is truly in league with A. While they’re practicing Aria discovers a note in Jenna’s violin case that says “COBBS, EARPLUGS, 4:15” and the liars decide to follow her. It turns out that Cobbs is a Guns and Ammo store! As Jenna gets in her car to drive away Hannah becomes furious and steps in front of the car, Jenna is startled.

Jenna tells the girls that she’s been faking her vision-loss for protection seeing as someone tried to burn her alive inside her house, but that she’s been driving out of town late at night because pretending to be blind to everyone around you is frustrating. Emily asks her what happened the night she can’t remember and Jenna claims that she found her drunk and disoriented in the middle of the road, and decided to put her in the car and drive her back to her house only to have Emily escape the car the car midway.  Jenna pleads with the girls to keep her secret, saying that they owe her.

It included a lot of mature themes and it really connects with today's older youth. You mean violence wise? Not just that, but the show tells the stories of the characters finding themselves. Take Asami for example. A lot of people have a late relative and another relative involved in some kind of trouble. She had her relationships AND family business to take care of, which relates to some of today's youth who feel like they have the whole world on their shoulders. They're starting to have to take responsibility for things they can hardly manage, and seeing the triumph of a character like Asami is truly inspiring. Her mother's dead, her father's in prison, her boyfriend was stolen from her, and her business nearly failed. But she did not give up, which sends a positive message to today's generation of teens. Mako was not stolen from Asami he just chose Korra and everyone knows that thats what people wanted. As messed up as that sounds its the truth.
