Brie Larson Interview

Feb 29, 2016

By: Sindy

Sindy: Congrats on your new album coming out this summer! Do you plan on touring at all once the album comes out?
Brie Larson: Yes. I'm not sure who I'll be touring with, but I'd love to tour with someone like Maroon 5 or Gwen Stefani.

Sindy: What do you enjoy doing more - acting or singing?
Brie Larson: That's a hard one cuz I really love both acting and singing equally.

Sindy: Who are your musical influences?
Brie Larson: I have a lot of different influences. Everything from Maroon 5, Gwen Stefani, The Clash, Kanye West - just a lot of different artists.

Sindy: What has been your most enjoyable acting role so far and why?
Brie Larson: I think it would have to be my role in Right on Track. After I did that, I had a girl come up to me and tell me that I had inspired her to do motocross. That was really cool.

Sindy: How old were you when you started getting into acting?
Brie Larson: I started acting in second grade - my first role was in the Thanksgiving play. I was the Indian chasing the turkey. All the other mom's encouraged my mom to get me into acting after that. Also, when I saw the Sound of Music at Music Circus I knew I wanted to act.

Sindy: What was your first gig?
Brie Larson: My first acting gig was a skit for Jay Leno on The Tonight Show. It was this Barbie commercial where I got to pour mud all over Barbie dolls and watch the heads pop off. It was so exciting, a lot of fun.

Sindy: What are you going to bring to Hollywood and the music industry that other young female pop stars haven't?
Brie Larson: I think that I write about stuff that others don't write about. I don't have a bunch of love songs cuz I don't really have much boy experience. I just write about what I am actually going through in my real life. That's where the title from my album comes from - Finally out of P.E. My P.E. teacher didn't like me at all, which was hard to deal with cuz I was usually such a teachers' pet. So when I found out I got my record deal, I was like, 'Yes, I'm finally out of P.E.'

Sindy: Do you still attend regular school? What do your friends think about your growing career?
Brie Larson: I'm home-schooled. And all of my friends knew me before I got the record deal and bigger roles. They think it's really cool. I take them with me to events and introduced a bunch of them to Aaron Carter, which was fun.

Sindy: Favorite food?
Brie Larson: Lasagna or burritos.

Sindy: What are your favorite TV Shows?
Brie Larson: My favorite TV shows are The OC, Carnival on HBO... Law and Order. Pretty much anything on Court TV. I find that stuff fascinating.

Sindy: What is the one item of clothing you couldn't live without?
Brie Larson: My Marc Jacobs blazer. I love Marc Jacobs. I take my blazer everywhere I go. It's just one of those perfect fits.

Sindy: Who is your role model?
Brie Larson: This might be a little weird cuz he's a guy, but Adam from Maroon 5. He's such a great performer, very passionate. I really admire him.

Sindy: Have people told you that you need to change anything about your image?
Brie Larson: Yeah, you always get the strangest comments like, my hair is too blonde or I'm too tall. And it makes you start to think, 'Man, I wish I was three inches shorter.' The one that really bugs me is that I'm told I'm too smart to make it in this industry. It can be hard sometimes to hear stuff like that.

Sindy: Do you have any advice for kids trying to break into either the acting or the music industry?
Brie Larson: Go for it. But know before you do it that there is a lot of sacrifice involved. You have to be really comfortable with yourself because people are going to tell you that you're eyes are too brown or you're this or you're that. And if you're not comfortable with yourself, you could get pretty freaked out.
