Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-Earth II Game Review

We conquer Middle-Earth on the Xbox 360 with our review of The Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-Earth II!

The Lord of the Rings movies were set in the fantasy world of Middle-Earth as the evil Sauron rallied his dark forces to conquer the whole place. Now, with the Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-Earth II game for PC and Xbox 360, you can lead the forces of Middle-Earth into battle and save the day, or play as the bad guys and stomp hobbits into jam! We review it here.

Orcs, Elves, Dwarves, Heroes and Villains on the Xbox 360

You 'da boss! You can lead the forces of good (elves, dwarves and humans), or the forces of evil (Mordor, Isengard and goblins). Once you pick your team, you're off on a whole pile of missions as you battle in famous places, with great heroes and more. There are a few special abilities you can use and ways to power-up your forces, but it's mostly as easy as clicking on your troops and clicking on the bad guys you want them to attack.

Lord of the Rings - Kickin' Butt Across Middle-Earth

What's really awesome about this game is that it's so easy to play. You'll be marching trolls through Minas Tirith, unleashing the Nazgul on Rohan and summoning the Balrog to flatten dwarves in no time. Or you might even play as the good guys. You can also play online and there are lots of opponents to chose from.

Lord of the Rings - Nasty Hobbitses

The biggest problem with this game is that once the battles get huge, the Xbox 360 overloads and things slow down or stutter. It's frustrating, but pretty rare. Oh, and watch out online - most of the players out there will kick your butt unless you're hardcore.

Lord of the Rings - Fun or Failure?

Even with a few problems, The Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-Earth II is an easy game to play and fun for anybody, even if you aren't a Lord of the Rings fan! Plus, you can summon the Balrog to whup your opponent and that's just awesome.

The Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-Earth II Thumbs Up:

  • Command the heroes and villains of Middle-Earth, including Shelob!
  • Lots of online competition.
  • Battle in famous places from the movies!

The Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-Earth II Thumbs Down:

  • It slows down during big battles.
  • You'll get your butt kicked online.

Those of you who have used the "Easter Egg" on Toontown might be in for a rude awakening.  Whether or not you are aware of this, using the teleport bots has a chance of getting you banned!  These bots are NOT made by Disney and are made by a HACKER.  However, they do not give you any kind of keylogger.
